BIOGRAPHY

Sylvana Marks is a Luritja and Warlpiri woman, born in Alice Springs Hospital and grew up with her foster parents at Papunya and Mount Leibig in the Northern Territory. Sylvana went to pre-school in Papunya and Mount Leibig, boarding school at St Phillip's College and high school at Yirara College, both in Alice Springs. After school, Sylvana worked at the shop in Mount Leibig. After meeting her husband Sylvana moved to Finke. Together they have four children and two grandchildren.

Sylvana is a talented emerging artist, she says her paintings are an act of remembering. Making these works takes her back to when she was a child growing up in the bush and watching and learning from her foster mum, who respected senior artists Ikuntji Arts in Haasts Bluff. Sylvana started painting at Umoona Arts in 2022 and works alongside her father in law Keith Minunga and their extended family.
